I am surprised that the person that said he was a Mason didn't tell you that different lodges used to mark coins and also make their own tokens. It is not surprising some lodge or just one Mason marked a Washington dollar with one of their symbols. They usually use he V and G symbol. Washington was a Mason and even though I am not, I have a Washington Mason medal from Washington D.C. when they built a temple there. You have an interesting piece of Americana, but it is considered damaged by the coin collecting community. Hold on to it for it may just bring you good luck.

Actually when I was small, I used to collect stamps. I had a friend who used to collect coins. She got interest in stamps and asked for an exchange, I gave all stamps to her and got all coins for her. Then my hobby changed in to coin collecting. That also didn't last long because coin collecting was difficult than stamp collecting. Now my only hobby is Yahoo answers... Have a great day friend :-)

I'm looking at the coin here:

http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?action=Washington

If this is the coin you're looking at, I'm assuming the Masonic symbol you are talking about is the Statue of Liberty which was a gift of the French Freemasons to America.

If you are looking at something different please either post an image or a link to the image.
