This is in Taylor, Michigan in our backyard wobbling around. Just wondering what it was, I never seen one before.

After looking at pictures of the two most suggested breeds (broad winged and coopers), found out it is a coopers hawk.

It did look like it had an injured foot, but started walking on it when I got too close. When it had 2 people on each side of it, it finally flew onto the house, then off into some distant trees. So it wasn't injured to the point it couldn't fly.

Anyways, thanks everyone.

It's one of the accipiter hawks - probably a Sharp-shinned, possibly a Cooper's. Depends on the size, somewhat - if it's about the size of a Blue Jay, it's a Sharpshinned. A crow-sized bird is a Cooper's Hawk. Usually you go by the tail, but I'm not certain about the degree of 'roundedness' there.

Juvenile Cooper's Hawk. Not the easiest bird to ID for a beginning birder but certainly not a Merlin or Broad-winged.

Possibly a Cooper's Hawk, because it has long thin tail that is rounded at the end.
Though the brown stripes on the chest lead me to think it also could be a broad winged hawk.

It looks like a sharp-shinned hawk. He's a small, bird hunting hawk that flies low through the trees and bushes to capture his prey. His tail is long and broad, where his primary feathers are narrow-tipped that spread out like fingers while in flight. He ranges from North America to Mexico and generally, females are bigger than males (like in most birds of prey).

Could be a female or immature pigeon hawk.

If it allows you to get that close, it is hurt. Please leave it along. Keep the dogs and cats away from it.
