They have insect larvae inside of them that move around. They eventually hatch from the bean like an egg.

There is actually a worm that lives in the bean that causes it to appear like it is jumping. The jumping beans look really cool till you find out what it is that makes them jump, then it's kind of gross.

I haven't seen Mexican jumping beens for a long time, but they have a little worm in them. That's what makes them move around.

The others are right. This was on a science program. There ARE small little worm insects inside that ARE trying to chew their way out. They ARE alive and make it move around. After a number of days, they die, and no more movement. That's the real answer.
