RAM: 2GB or more
A new standard called DDR3 recently came out, but it's about twice as expensive as DDR2. Right now the performance is probably not that much better to justify the price.
Video card: NVIDIA 8800 GTX/Ultra or ATI Radeon HD2900XT are the current top-of-the-line cards.
You can connect two identical cards together for improved perforance (NVIDIA calls it SLI, ATI calls it Crossfire), but new games don't require this much processing power (yet). Get a motherboard that supports this feature in case you want to upgrade later.
Physics card: No. Few games support this, and those that do aren't much improved.
Hard drives: Western Digital Raptor for the operating system and games, another HDD for storage (250GB or more)
Extras:
Windows Vista - Get the 64-bit version to get the most of your processor.
DVD Burner - Cheap, more storage is always useful.
Sound card - Integrated sound is usually good enough.
Power supply - 750 watts or more should be fine, but your computer builder probably knows what would be enough.

Normally the best things to look at first are the RAM and the graphics card. For the RAM, 2 gigs should be more than enough for any game. Don't go for the 3 or 4 gigs of RAM right away, as it gets pretty pricey and is extremely easy to upgrade later on your own (also cheaper).
The graphics card is the next most important component, and any newer NVIDIA geForce card with 512mb of video RAM is amazing.
As far as the hard drive goes, a 7,200 rpm drive is great, but a 10,000 rpm drive is better if your looking for best performance.
Physics cards are somewhat uncessary as of right now, and the money is probably better spend upgrading the RAM, video card, processor or HDD.

What you need depemds on what Operating system, ie XP or Vista, etc you are going to use. If you want the best graphics then I suggest you run Vista Home Premium. You'll need an Nvidia or ATIO graphics card that supports DX 10. This is the new Microsoft graphics engine. You'll also need at least 1 gb of memory. Since you'll have an X2 processor then that should give you enough processing power. This, along with the Nvidia graphics card, should give you nice graphics. I recommend the Nvidia 8600 or 8800 card.
Hope that helps

you should get 2gb of ram, at least a 256 mb video card, but i would go for the 512 mb, and a high speed usb 2.0 card. Have fun. I wish I could afford one.

To do that, you'd need to spend over £3,000. The xbox 360 has the guts of a £2,600 PC apparently.
