It's interesting to me that people who are against romantic interracial relationships never seem to be as passionate about their beliefs when they are talking about White/German, Hispanic/White, Italian/White, White/Japanese or any other combination where the skin colors are very close in skin tone.

However, whenever there is a Black/White couple involved they seem to really protest, whether it is a White girl with Black guy or Black girl with White guy.

My question is why do most people seem to protest this combination so much if both people are really happy in the relationship?

The excuse that most people will use is that their kids will have problems and be discriminated against if they ever have any but I always want to ask them how many interracial kids have they talked to who have complained about not being well adjusted. In most cases I'm sure that not too many have.
Any way, why do most Americans make sure a big deal out of the White/Black romantic relationship?

Just to clarify, I'm American so my intent is not to stereotype myself or the citizens of the country. Not to mention that I realize that racial tension exist in other countries. South Africa is one of the most polarized regions in the world. However, it just seems like people in the U.S. make a much bigger deal out of Black/White relationships then other countries and I just don't understand why that is. Admittedly however, I'm not an expert on the subject but I do considered myself socially aware, polite, and sincere to the point where interracial couples don't bother me, make me bitte, or control my actions.

You basically answered your own question at the end when you asked "why do most Americans make such a big deal out of the white/black romantic relantionship".
If you travel around the world race isn't no where near the issue as it is in America. And most of the issues are rooted way deep in the slavery history of this country. For over four hundred years the white race in the country ruled over the black race and owned them like property. So of course there are still some people out there who think they are better simply because they are white, and of course there are people out there who feel resentment for what happened and feel that you shouldnt trust white people. That is why people in America cannot see past black and white but they can see past any other race mixing. Is it right, NO, but it is there.

Interracial Marriage Definition

I think it depends on where you live. I am happy to say that where I live (Nothern New Jersey) people seem to be much more liberal. I suppose it has something to do with being outside city, but overall people are much more accepting here. I know and have seen many interracial couples around here and nobody really has a problem with it. Also, why do you say Americans? Prejudice is not limited to the U.S. There are other countries where many of the citizens have a problem with intteracial couples. What about the Dominican Republic? It is a much bigger deal in that country to be white and marry a black. There are many Latin American countries where marrying someone with dark skin is looked down on. There are probably many other places too.
I can't tell you why Americans are againest intteracial relationships because I don't think it is just Americans but I can tell you why some people might be. I think it just has to do with being racist and set your own ways. Many people just cannot accept change. You can try to change there minds but it is really a pain in the ***. I just go about my life and ignore people like that because they are not worth my time anyway.

Where I live, there are many interracial relationships. A lot of my peers are half this, half that. I don't have any problems with it, because of the area where I live, everyone's used to it. In most other places, people are used to tradition and it's that what makes a family stable. People in general don't like seeing anything different, because they are too ignorant. Hopefully, in the future, people won't have any problems like this.

I am white ( russian to be exact) marrie dto a black man here in US. most of my life was spend in europe and you are right i have NEVER felt any tension regarding black/white couples. in fact many countries like Holland, France and Germany make it seem like its rare to see a couple that is all white. Most couples are mixed and no one blinks and eye about it. However, the minute i moved here and got in a realtionship with my husband everyone has something to say. Bottom line is this, to be in an interracial relationship, black andwhite to be exact, is hard in US. You need to be stubborn enough, and tough enough to handle it. Its no ones business to judge anyone at all.

This is a cultural problem that goes way back to the time of slaves! Unfortunately many people are so closed minded that they forget that now a days there is no pure white or pure black any more! Too bad since I believe that we all originated from the same line long before all the prejudices began showing up!

And you win the moron award for today. Congratulations. "God created races on different continents for a reason."-- We all came from the same place in Africa (Adam and Eve, if you're religious) and we all started out the same way--dark skinned. We didn't differentiate until we spread out and entered northern climates. And I'm sorry, labeling something as liberal because you don't understand it and don't agree with it, doesn't change facts which are supported by evidence, it just makes you look stupid. Which, you clearly are.

People mix up issues of skin colour and culture thinking that if they have interracial relationships, they will lose their culture. But culture relates to traditions and values, not just to skin colour, and I wish more people would understand that.

I'm Indian and my boyfriend is German and we have no problems with that.

It goes back to slavery days, but America is still obsessed with black and white. My aunt who is Nigerian like myself, is married to an Irish-Briton and they live in London with their two boys; They dont get problems being an interracial couple. However here in the USA, my boyfriend and I get the stares and comments on occasion. Sad but true.

I dont know about the american one but for foreginers i can understand.
If a african were to marry a european there parents may get upset because they're going to say your dropping your heritage and some find it very hard to clash to compeltly diffrent cultures. As for americans i have no clue why they would have a issue with that.
