i know that i can plug my ipod onto my friends itunes and retrieve some of his songs. the question im asking is, if i plug my ipod back to my computer where my itunes does not have thoes songs, will i still be able to keep them. if not is there a different way to do this

If you connect it, the songs that you got from your friend will stay on the iPod, but on iTunes, it will say it can't find the songs, and it won't bring them onto your hard drive.

It won't delete them, either, if thats what you mean. They will just not upload to your computer, because apple doesn't want you getting all your songs from friends.

you import the new files from the ipod to your computer. itunes should ask you if you want to add the new content.
