I suggest that, if you have XP to wait until you upgrade to Vista before you get your new card. XP doesn't and never will support directX10 and there isn't a card out right now, even the $700 8800 ultra, that can do what DirectX10 is capable of. Nvidia says its just because of immature drivers while a lot of people believe it is the hardware itself. Hopefully, by the time you switch to vista the better cards will be out. If you never plan to upgrade to vista get the 8800 because it has the 320-bit memory interface. You wont see much difference between your card and the 8600 cuz it has the same 128-bit interface as the one you have now.

you can but you don't have too... the good thing about upgrading to the 8600 and 8800 would be direct x10... new shader and a little better looking than its predecessors direct x 9. i know tigerdirect.com has a pair of 8600 for less than $400 if you can run sli mode... you should check that out

what are you proposing to play that would even begin to require an 8600 or 8800 card??

[afaik, there aren't any games out there that really need that much video processing power.]

Is your pc a HP Pavilion Elite? The specs for that device shows a center 2 Quad Q8200 (Y) 2.33 GHz (95W) 1333 MHz front area bus Socket 775 CPU. it incredibly is incredibly useful to look in BIOS and alter which video card gets chosen first by the equipment. i'm hoping this facilitates. reliable success!
