Why are divorced parents ordered to pay child support when a child attends school after the age of 18 while married parents are not legally bound to do so? Living in NJ.

No, married parents cannot be ordered to provide financial support for their child while in college (assuming the child is at least 18, which means they are a legal adult). Therefore, I think it’s utterly ridiculous that divorced parents can be ordered to do that (but rather or not support can be ordered during college depends on the state you live in).

I paid my own way through college with no help from my parents at all. Nor did I expect any help from them.

That doesn't seem right I thought child support stopped when the child reached 18. Is it a boy? I know some states say a boy is not a man until 21 years old.
Your are right that doesn't make any sense. Unless they have a short time to go to graduate high school.

The parents are not financially responsible as long as the 18 year old is out of the house
