when you film the computer screen, how do you stop the scrolling effect?

The problem is the beat frequency between the 60 Hz of the video screen and the unsynconised 60 Hz or 30 Hz of the video camera.

The professional answer is you sync the camera and video screen.

For us non-pros out there:

Get an LCD monitor. Because they do not have the phosphor persistence problem of CRTs they will not have the same problem.

Set the camera exposure time to 1/60 second.

Set the monitor refresh rate to 85 Hz +. So the beat frequency is now 25 Hz rather than 0.1 Hz. The screen image may flicker a little, but it may be better than that big bar scrolling slowly up or down the image.

If you use a LCD monitor/tv, the flickering will not happen. But if you want to record the screen, you can use a few programs:
Camastia Studio-http://www.techsmith.com/
FRAPS-http://www.fraps.com/
SnagIt-http://www.techsmith.com/

So, unfortunately, you are gonna have to shed out a few pounds. Unless you use one of the recording programs.
And still then, you will have to shed out a few pounds[unless you use FRAPS]
