Look at Alex Smith's team...I think it's pretty obvious that he has the most potential to have great numbers this year (I don't mean to say that San Fran is better than Chicago right now...but just the QBs). Vernon Davis is some kind of super TE....he's just a big receiver...gifted...Darrell Jackson will be consistent again..Arnaz Battle did an okay job..he's a viable receiver also. Will Ashley Lelie ever live up to expectations? He might, he was on bad offenses there for the past two years...and the new guy Jason Hill was good in college....I think he has what it takes to help this team...but he's probably a #3/4 receiver right now.
Alex Smith is a fantasy sleeper this year...I think he's in good shape for 25 TDs this year if Gore can keep the defenses respecting his running ability. Jason Campbell....I dunno, the guy didn't impress much last year...Not sure what to expect from him this year. And if Rex Grossman can not have a 0.0 passer rating game..I think it can be called a better year for him....so inconsistent....

Obviously all three have the potential to improve or they would be in the pro bowl.
As far as improving skill levels. I think Rex is close to reaching what he is, an average QB who just has to manage the team and not make mistakes. I don't think there is much upside here except to make fewer mistakes and a little more consistency.
Alex Smith has the most talent, which is why he was drafted first. He is making progress and now has some skilled players around him(D. Jackson was a nice addition to a weak receiving group). V. Davis will improve and hopefully have fewer drops at the TE position and Frank Gore is an elite running back. Alex has skills and is set to have a big jump in production this year.
Jason Campbell is a great athlete and a bit more of a project to become a great QB. I look for him to improve this year. He has a good running game but he needs his receivers( other than S. Moss) to step up their play(Randle-El and the worthless B. Lloyd).
I think in the long run it will shake out that A. Smith will have the best career(stat wise) while J. Campbell falls somewhere between Smith and Grossman. If Grossman continues to have turnover issues, he won't finish the season as a starter.

not Rex Grossman.. he's always sucked and he'll always suck.. he's got an arm but he blows up almost as classically as Leaf.. Alex Smith is still young and could very well have the most potential as a pure QB.. Jason Campbell is the most potentially dangerous person in the list.. he'll be mediocre forever and just when you about give up on you he'll be unstoppable (did it at Auburn.. stunk it up in 02 and 03.. then undefeated and sitting at the Heisman presentation in 04.. part of that goes to Al Borges).. he's got really good legs and is deceptively fast for a big guy (6'4" 240 or so) and has a strong arm as well.. Campbell probably has the most talent of the 3 overall.. plus he's hard to tackle.. most defensive backs won't be able to blitz and sack Campbell it'll take at least a safety if not a LB or DL to get him down
so I'll go with a toss up between Smith and Campbell and suggest that the Bears Draft a QB who won't choke late in the season

I would have to say Grossman....Alex smith did horrible in his first season with the 9er's, then improved last season, Rex had some horrible games too, but had some outstanding ones with 7 or 8 games with 100 passer ratings. People were already throwing him the MVP trophy in the first half of the season. Chicago also brought in pep Hamilton QB coach of the 9ers to help grossman with the fundamentals. if grossman can make good decisions, change his reads better and take care of the ball, he'll be pretty good

I definitely would pick Jason Campbell because of his all-around game. Although he is not known for it, he is a fantastic runner which could pose a big threat to opposing defenses if/when he improves in that area. Also, he is one of the most accurate passer in the NFL when set up. So, if he can improve on when and where to be when he throws the ball, his deep ball could be a huge threat with wide receivers such as Antwaan Randle El and Santana Moss. While I think that Grossman has already reached his peak of getting to the Super Bowl. And Alex Smith has so far not shown that he has THAT much potential in the first place, but rather overrated. But still you can't count out any of these top prospects that could easily prove me wrong this upcoming season. Very entertaining question. *****

tough question!!! i think Grossman might take the cake, but than again i think Smith may have it too.... I see huge stumbling blocks in front of both of them... Grossman has an inner problem, i dont know what it is, maybe focus maybe fear, hey maybe he has irritable bowel syndrome... who knows.
Smith deals with a different problem, he is not powerful. He is accurate and calm and collected but he is small and "weak" these things may hinder him from ever achieving what the greats in front of him did.
As for Jason Campbell, i have no hope for him, i think he is what he is. not that he isnt good, i jkust think he is what he is

Hands down Alex Smith. He is also surrounded with the most talent and is in the best situation to excell. He was the first overall pick in the draft and has already shown signs of his great potential.
