Visitors to the USA: What are some of the funny things you noticed when you first came to USA to visit?

BIG cars. I was in New York and the cars were monstrously big.
I can understand people needing big-engined cars if they are traveling hundreds of miles a day, but why such ludicrously over-sized cars in the City?

And no trees. I know it was Manhattan but there was hardly a tree in sight anywhere except for Central Park. I must have walked three or four miles without seeing anything bigger than a bush.
