I think any heavy material would be fine. Wool would be preferred. You can get Army surplus wool blankets that may be cheaper than buying material but getting them to hold the red dye might be bad. No great ideas here sorry but if you can get your abs airbrushed you would look more authentic. we did that with some male vampires last year at our haunted house and it really defines the abs. you dont have to go overboard here. Just some shading, any makeup would be good too. I know off topic but thought it might help the overall look.

I have not seen the movie yet, but most of the capes were of (boiled) wool since sheep were prevalent in that area of the world. Wool can be expensive so you might want to look for an equivalent material that costs less... Darts in the material can help with the creases. you can also do fold which would help too. Good luck!

Not that I've seen the movie... But have you thought about maybe using aluminum tape? It usually comes in a roll of about 6 inches by 10 yards(?). It's pretty malliable and yet thick enough to hold its shape AND it has adhesive on one side. Just a thought... Add a little steel wool and elbow greese and you can burnish it.
