I just downloaded Limewire onto my apple computer. I'm very concerned about viruses and stuff like that because if anything happens to this computer my parents would kill me, lol. I've heard both ways, that macs don't get viruses and that it'll ruin my computer.

Will Limewire and limewire downloads hurt my computer?

It depends. I'm not sure about LimeWire itself, but you could always download an anti-virus. A good free one is AVG, which is free forever, and in my opinion it works wonders. You can download it from http://www.download.com (a trusted source for downloading things, as said by Consumer Reports). Macs are not impervious to viruses, but they're less prone to them than Windows are. Why? Macs are not as widespread as Windows computers are, which is why they are prime targets for computer hackers.
As for downloads, you won't have to worry if all you're downloading is videos or music files; those, in my experience, have never done any harm to my computer. If you're looking to download programs, be wary. Almost all the programs I ever got out of LimeWire (even anti-virus engines) had trojan horses or the like. If it is a must to download a program, always make sure that the download is not smaller than 1 MB (1,000 KB). Viruses are generally pretty small in file size.

It depends what you download. Contrary to Apple advertisements, Macs are not immune to viruses and malware. Most viruses and malware today are targeted towards PCs (due to them being used by virtually everyone), but if someone wants to screw your computer up, they will.
