I met with a car accident 3 days ago. It was a chain collision. The car behind me hit me first & due to the impact my car hit the truck in front of me. On the day of the accident, this scenario was clearly stated to the officer by all the 3 drivers. The driver behind me also accepted in front of the officer, that he hit me first .
Now i got the police report today which states, that i hit the truck in front of me first!! But what happenned actually was the car behind me hit me 1st due to which i was forced into the truck in front of me.
My car is new and has the maximum damage, cos it was hit both on the rear & front. Has anyone been in such a sitaution or know any1 who has been in such a situation? What should i do about the mistake in police report?? I left a message to the officer and he never returned my call. I called up the police station and talked to the desk sargent, he told me that the officer should contact me in a few days. Do officers ever correct thier reports?

To someone who said i do not pay attention! Yes i do pay attention, the reason why i posted this question here is because most married people would be owning cars from many years and would have come accross such a situations and more people tune into these forums. So i hope you get the idea! and stop judging people like this. Thank you

hey I've been the victim in a similar accident, it has been a pain in the behind getting things straightened out, keep contacting the police until they change the report, ask the officer how you could hit the truck in front of you before the guy behind you hit you and shoved you into the truck ahead.

They can correct it, but you have to stay on the case, and be sure that it happens. Get statements from the other drivers, and call the station and ask for the officer several times a day. Find out what time he goes on duty and comes off, and be there to talk to him. Do it quickly, before he forgets the details of this, or you may get hit with higher insurance costs.

Yeah, it's a pain, and mistakes happen. You can whine and moan about it, or you can be pro-active. Guess which tactic will be more effective for you in the long run?

Sweet Pea you are going to have to go a little further. If you can get statements from the other victims if you can, if not then that police will never revamp his statement. Good luck!

Go to the police station and do it in person. Don't play telephone tag.
