Where did you find this? Most places that I've seen have the restrooms side by side. Then too it may be the men who are coming up with the design plans.

Well...if I'm coming from the left side of the airport it is...but when I turn back...it's after the women's restroom.

most places i have been is women's then the men's restroom.. but does the extra 5 steps really matter that much?

This is not always the case, but I find it usually is when I bother to take notice. My theory is that men's are closer because women would rather not have men peeking in whenever the door is opened.
Just a guess.

I've often wondered that myself. Irritating isn't it? Ever notice how so many of them are badly designed. Some man with out a clue to women's needs designed them.

That would depend on the layout of the building - they are not all the same worldwide!

think before you ask a question such as this. it's all about which way you're walking towards the bathrooms. BUT if you're talking about left-to-right well at Knott's Berry Farm they have the women's first. alright so please don't ask dumb questions no offense

theyre usually close together....heres my ques since women have smaller bladders why dont they get smart and put 5 extra toilets in the ladies room??
