Did your parents teach you to believe in Santa or did they tell you the truth? And if you have or will have kids one day will you plan telling them about santa?

Many children believe in Santa Clause, but the spirit of Christmas is actually in the name itself. CHRIST MAS. CHRIST is our Christmas. And the spirit of giving and sharing was brought to life by St. Nicholas, who gave presents to the poor. Do I believe or my children, yes.

Yes, I was told there was a Santa Claus until I was around 8. I think that was too young to be told the truth. My kids - 6 & 10 - believe in Santa Claus. I dread telling them the truth - it will break their hearts.

My parents let me believe there was a Santa Claus for as long as I wanted to. I will tell my kids that there is a Santa Claus, there has to be some sense of magic in a child's life. To this day (and I'm 28) I still like to pretend to believe just because it is fun and gives me a great feeling inside.

We believed in Santa, but we also knew who Santa originally was. St. Nicholas day (Dec. 6) was celebrated in our home too, with small gifts in our stockings. After we found out that Santa Claus (the myth) wasn't real, we began to associate Santa more as a symbol of giving and not so much of "How much are we getting". We plan on our children believing in Santa, knowing about St. Nicholas, and that giving is infinitely better than receiving. My Mother always said (after we found out of course) that Santa represented the spirit of Christmas.

My parents told the tales including Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus and allowed us to decide. At 45 years old...I still believe! My kids have all heard both sides and all 3 are believers, too.

My parents told me to believe in Santa, but when I got older my beliefs weakened, but I couldn't deny his existence fully until I had real proof. One year I was looking in my parents' closet and there were the "santa" presents. I do intend to tell my kids to believe in santa claus because it's a fun disciplinary measure. Plus they learn a bit of German.

My 11 year old son figured it out last year. I guess the kids at school were talking. But he's been warned not to tell his 6 year old brother. Santa is what makes Christmas for the little ones.

I found out when my mom came over and said Oh Santa Claus made a mistake, this was supposed to go to your sister.
I was like 6.
:]
I hate it when the kids spoil it for other kids though,

my to this day has not said there isn't a santa... I'm 40!

I told one of my kids the truth and he was PISSSSEEDDD! I'll keep up the lie forever with my youngest, just like my mom did... although I'm sure he knows the truth already.

It was fun to play santa... still is!
