I haven't posted a question for a few weeks but during some watercooler talk today at work, I posed this question and got some interesting answers.

What, specifically, would YOU like to see from tennis to make it more appealing to you, thus increasing our audience?

There is but one rule to this question...I want to know about YOU SPECIFICALLY not a global diagnostic. Instead of asking yourself, "what does tennis need" ask "how could tennis market themselves better to ME? What would compel ME to turn on the tv and actually search for tennis?"

I'd also like to hear from non-tennis players/fans if possible. We tennis geeks tune in anyway so anything we say is going to be biased. How about you football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer and full-contact chess fans out there? I wanna know what YOU want.

And btw, "shorter skirts" is NOT a qualified answer. LMAO! But be creative.

You have the floor...

I'd love to see a wider expansion of coverage at all levels. I mean high school basketball games get TV coverage, while you can't even find some Davis Cup matches. Not complaining I like basketball a lot too, but wouldn't you like to see some of the nation's top high school recrutis play eachother like an all-american tournament. Omg that sounds so great. Even some college tennis regular season matches would be nice too. You see what I'm getting at?

One suggestion would be to increase the TV coverage of tennis tournaments out of the US. Over here, aside from the Majors and the US Open Series, tennis coverage is scarce at best. It is difficult for fans, especially new ones, to get into a sport that is sporadically televised. They should also broadcast the entire Davis Cup competition, not just the ties in which the US is playing. It's a confusing format as it is, with matches being played throughout the year, but I can only imagine the trouble a new fan would have making sense of a contest in which only the US team appears to participate.

I think they should do what professional bowling does and have a little Pro-Am Doubles Tournament before each tournament. No matter how good you are or how old you are, kids and adults alike would dream of playing with a professional tennis player.

Maybe they could get more tournaments in the Upper Midwest like around Chicago. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the closest professional tournament is in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Another idea that would intrigue me is to have a couple multi-surface tournaments like what Federer and Nadal did a while back. And every day they could have a different combination of surfaces.
