Head gasket repairs can cost quite a bit if done by a repair shop, usually they find other things that need to be fixed as well adding up the cost. I would not be suprised to see 500.00 or more for a head gasket replacement.

You are bascially buying a car without an engine. So, base your buying price on this fact.

Besides the actual cost of replacing the motor, you might have to invest in a whole mess of other new parts that got boogered up from neglect or oil going places it doesn't belong and so on.

You might want to find out how much it would cost to replace the heater core and radiator and hoses and water pump and anything else in questionable condition.

Add it all up and figure out how much money the owner should pay YOU to take the mess off his hands.

Good Luck!

Check the Kelly Blue Book on line for a value for the vehicle given the miles and accessories etc. then discount the cost of repair. to get a real estimate call a few local garages for a quote. Depending on any internal damage it could be about $1,000 as heads should be redone since they are already off. so based on cost of repair subtract the repair cost from the value of the vehicle or at least 1/2 of it, your call.

I would not pay no more than a $1,000 for that car, If you fix It yourself It will cost around $200-250, If you bring It to a shop It will cost around $500-1500 depending on the mechanic.

Figure same $ in worse case,i.e. cracked head, warped beyond repair or worse damaged engine.
Call dealer and ask what previous customers have paid on same model car for same repair, is your best guide.

Good luck

If you do it yourself maybe not but if you take it to a shop you might get charged roughly $3000. Try to do it yourself.
