Have you never had dreams where there is no vision, just sound? I know I have.
A blind person is as capable of dreaming as everyone else.
Sighted people mainly dream in vision, but if you think about it, any of the senses could be experienced.

Right, the general consensus is (although this is only half-remembered and we can't remember where we heard it) that in the majority of cases, people born with vision who have then lost it dream with vision. People who were born blind either experience dreams through the other senses they posses or dream in vision and construct an image of what they believe the world looks like (which ant believes would be really cool to see as a comparision between the differences of the two worlds). We think.

Hey,
Who's to say their dreams would always be auditory or non visual just because they haven't seen things before. I'm not blind myself nor do I know anyone who is but I think it would be a little bit too presumptuous to say they wouldn't be able to dream images. If I told you about some random object (but didn't describe it) that YOU had never seen or heard of before I'm pretty sure you could still come up with an image in your head as to what it MAY look like though a blind persons representation may be completely surreal as their experience of the world is different to someone who can see - I still see no reason as to why they wouldn't be able to visualize somthing.
Just my opinion
Stephen.

Blind people are capable of having dreams. They just unfortunately can't visualise things properly. But they do come pretty close. For example, a blind person can feel the shape of a glass, the sound it makes (vibration). Then imagine what it could look like, using the description somebody else has given them. This can apply to so many things. It's also possible to have dreams just using their enhanced sense's too. I know i've had dreams that don't require sight.

I would think they have dreams that they can "see" in a different way. However they haven't been able to form visual perception of the world so they wouldn't be having physically "visual" perceptions in the dream state. You can't dream about something that you've never seen before. (and If you have I'd be willing to bet it would be the result of some kind of hallucinogenic.let me elaborate a bit more. You can dream about things that you have impressions of even things that don't exist because you have probably seen images on the tv screen or some other media form. But it is highly improbable that you have dreamt of something that you haven't seen in some form or another. Does that make any sense?

that's a good question, I'm sure they do dream and as i think most blind people have some very limited vision ie light. colours and even maybe shapes i think they would put there own perspective on how they 'see' things... a blind person 'sees' through touch and smell so although their dreams wont view like a DVD they will still dream...after all dreams are a thought process so it makes sense to me that they can dream... oooh..i hope someone comes up with the answer here at really is interesting

That is a very critical qution, seriously...
I belive that if they were born with the a bilty to see and then were blind, then i suppose there ability to see in dreams and even have them.
Blind people dream of what they think life looks like, what they belive there surroundings may be like but i don't think it will be very clear as they don't "really" know what it looks like.
Maby they dream f seeeing some defferent colours flying arund them..

I gotta say that if the person was born blind then no- there are no images to pull out of the subconscience.
If the person went blind after having eyesight then yes definately they would have dreams.

Yes they can and do! I know several blind people, those born blind say they experience things in the way they normally do. They 'imagine' what things look like and in dreams 'see' those images. One I used to visit regularly could describe his guide dog perfectly and could even trace her classic German Shepherd markings on her back. His sense of touch picks up the difference in the hair. Because we sighted people rely so much on vision we don't use our other senses as much.

Yes they can. They can touch and due to the feeling of objects, they can make out images and colors even. A blind person will dream about the objects as he feel it and not as we do seeing things. Dreams are related to the brain and not to the eyes.

Our dreams are based on our experiences. A person born blind will only dream about what he experiences in reality. Those with vision dream and see images because in reality they see images.
