Who would I rather have working for me if both men and women were equally effective at their work, and women were paid significantly less than men ??

From the perspective of a business owner, wouldn't you rather have a group of underpaid women who are good at their jobs so that you could make a bigger profit ??

Of course, I don't mean to say that subtle discriminations don't exist, but isn't a difference of 20+ cents just presposterous ??

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but surely you can at least try to comprehend the question instead of giving a knee-jerk response ??

Yes, they're very naive. A wage gap can't exist based on discrimination, we have the Equal Pay Act of 1963 to protect employees. Furthermore, women are more likely to take maternity leave whereas men aren't very likely to take paternity leave, and if they do, it's shorter than maternity leave.

That's an oversimplification; but yes, women do have to go an extra mile to prove their worthiness in the workplace..."we've come a long way baby" just not far enough yet.
Many business owners prefer men not because of the cost but because they know they won't have men being taken away from work to pick up kids after school, stay home when the kids are sick and deal with overemotion, AKA PMS.
Men are simply easier to deal with, especially for a male boss.

Untill they learn to kick A@# - litterally - they won't get the respect. It comes down to the small mind. Sad, but true. If you aren't a threat, you will be treated as such.
