Laptops today come with internal wireless cards you can turn on and off (it's a little button in front usually).
So as soon as you come in range of a wireless network you have the option of connecting.
There's not a whole lot to get about an internet connection - it's from a land line, either over the phone, cable or fiber optics. Wireless networks (wi-fi) send the internet over the air from a router that's hooked directly to the line.
A good inexpensive laptop right now are the toshibas. Under a thousand with lots of room and power to do your stuff.
Vista makes it a little null sometimes when I'm running Photoshop but for the most part it's all right.

i would recommend scrapping the whole idea of a laptop!
they are over priced, underpowered, under cooled non upgradeable and consume batteries every three years whether you use it or not replacements average £100 in the UK.
put your money towards a desktop
pound for pound you will get a better, faster machine which could in three years time have the £100 that you would have squandered on a lappy battery spent on a memory or graphics card upgrade!

sort is substantial. look into Dell. they have extreme high quality stuff for smart expenditures, and that they build to extra healthful what you opt for. in straight forward terms a notice - under no circumstances under no circumstances under no circumstances purchase a Compaq! They ruin consistently, and the corporation is a nightmare to handle while they do! I had one that broke after 2 weeks, I sent it to them for upkeep throughout the time of the corporation i offered it from, and that they lost it. It grew to become into lengthy previous for 4 months in my first semester of grad college! After that it broke 3 extra situations. The final time my warantee grew to become into almost up, I sent it to them, and that they did not hardship to restoration it. They sent it lower back nonetheless broken, and refused to restoration it after the warantee ran out (even however I sent it to them earlier it grew to become into up!). damaging!
