My husband and I make blankets around christams time and some we donate to diff. organ. and charities. Anyway, this year I am voluteering for a non profit animal rescue group. We are a very small group (fostering 3 dogs at the moment, one of which is at my house!!) anyway, we are trying to rasie money to get a non profit status and I am going to make and donate some fleece blankets. They will have dog prints on them like these:

And then there will be a solid color fabric on the back.

They will be made like this:

(size=one yard -two layers of fleece, takes about $25 to make)
what do you think a good price would be to charge?

I work for an animal shelter and we had someone making blankets like these. They were very popular, I think she sold them for $30 each. The only thing I can tell you is if you put the "fringe" on them, make SURE to tell people that they are NOT for dogs. So many people thought they were for the dogs to lay on, and bought them for that purpose. A couple weeks later we found out that a puppy was given one and chewed all the fringe off it, blocked and died.
A tag with this warning might not have helped, but at least it would have put the blame more on the owner.

I agree with above poster to skip the fringe since people might want to use them for either dog blankets or people blankets. I might use a fringe-less version for my dogs when they ride in the back of my car or SUV for example. If you do the fringe, you limit them to people only. They will also be cheaper and easier to make.

I agree $35-$40 is the most you can charge - not much mark-up for a profit so keeping the design very simple is the best idea so you can make them cheaper and faster. I'd also approach Hancock Fabric for a discount since this is for a charitable donation (get a letter from the charity you are helping to verify their donation/discount).

I like the fabric from hancocks. I think since it is a donation you can value them a little higher. I'd be sure to make some for large dogs too. Maybe if you have say 2 sizes that would be good. Value the smaller ones at say $35 and larger at say $45.

I love those...they are easy to make, my son made them for his kindergarten teachers last Christmas.

I don't think anyone would pay more then $25 for them...have you looked to see if you can buy the fleece in bulk so that it won't cost so much to make?
