I am pretty paranoid and don't really feel safe when I go out (until I get drunk). I am a pretty small guy, so if somebody wanted to rob/hurt me it wouldn't be that hard, even though I am pretty tough and a fighter. I just wanna feel safe in general

You are letting negative energy surround you and if you do this, negative energy can invade your aura and can become part of you which lets in more negative energy for others to enter your space. Try doing this, the next time you are going out. Light candles, play soft music, shut you're eyes and go to a happy place of peace and serenity..like a beach or a favorite place. Feel the sand on you're toes, taste the salt from the sea, engulf yourself with happiness and safety. Then get ready to go out for the night and take with you that positive energy and put an invisible shield around yourself so negativity can't enter your space....I know I sound like a nut and maybe I've been reading too much Harry Potter books, but try it, it really works.

replace the fear with the anticipation that something good is going to happen to you every time you go out.
Seriously, just like any wise and reasonable person (male or female), do not put yourself at risk by going places or doing things that put you in dangerous situations. All danger cannot be avoided of course, but a lot of it can. It makes good sense to avoid danger. Getting drunk is NOT the answer because that is false bravado and will slow down your response time if you ever DO have to defend yourself.
Also....how about some self defense courses? And I don't mean just a couple of classes, but the whole thing...learn the discipline, really devote yourself to it. Even men who are not large and bulky can be deadly adversaries once they learn the skills and how to use their bodies.
Best wishes to you! Stay away from unnecessary risk. It's smart.

It is obvious that you are suffering from anxiety. Do not use alcohol as medication. Be aware of your problem. Look for help. It may just be a very short term treatment!
Anyways look at the statistics. The chance of something like that happening are so incredibly low. As long as you keep a passive standing you should avoid any chance at all.
I know how it is. I'm not big either... I have so many years of martial arts training and used to have lots of trouble in bars, etc. Until one day I realized that it was my overly confident attitude that inflamed big assailants. I was afraid of having to really hurt people. So now, if someone bothers me I just say " I'm sorry if they had the impression of anything...", then I turn around and walk away!

If you want to feel safe, invite a friend/family member to come with you.
Also, say this in your head a couple times: "Nothing is going to happen to me." OR "Why should I feel scared?"
I know that sounds corny, but eventually you'll believe it.
If you can't invite a friend to come with you, get a cell phone. Sometimes talking to someone can calm your nerves. You don't have to tell them you feel scared, but if you start a conversation with someone, you won't feel so tense.
