I would vote for Erik Bedard.
Era of 3.11, WHIP 1.09, major league leader in K's.
12-4 record on an average team and he hasn't lost since June 10.
His insane streak over the past 2 months includes great starts against the Yankees and Red Sox, and a 15 K, 2-hit, complete game shutout of the Rangers. Not too shabby.

I think the top pitcher in MLB this year has to be Jake Peavy. He has nasty stuff, he's 13-5 with a 2.23 ERA, and more than one strikeout per inning. Some other great starters would be Chris Young, Brad Penny, Dan Haren, Erik Bedard, Josh Beckett, and CC Sabathia.
Also, how could you say Joba Chamberlain? He's only pitched 3 innings. You're saying that you would rather have Joba Chamberlain over Jake Peavy or Josh Beckett? It would be very hard to choose a reliever.

Best way to solve this question is to look for the pitcher with the lowest WHIP= Walks + Hits per innings pitched. ERA is a useful stat but unearned runs still score. Wins and losses get messed up due to bad pitchers on good offensive teams. Right now you could put Joba Chamberlain in the mix he's given up 3 hits in 6 innings and struck out 5+. Or Bobby Jenks who's tied for the MLB record of consecutive hitters retired.

I really love the way C.C Sabathia is throwing the ball.
But I'll also have to go with Tom Glavine. Not because he's a 300 game winner, just because I feel that he can shut down any team.
