The Stratosphere is not too far. The Strip bus runs every seven minutes for only $5 for a unlimited 24 hour pass. But, what you need to find the cheapest hotel on the strip is to check out the wholesalers Travelocity, Vegas.com, Expedia, Travelworm etc... Call the hotel and see if they price match. The Sahara price matches 888-696-2121 for reservations. What to know when you call.... name of the web site. Nightly rates not the average nightly rate. She will ask you how many people will be in the room. Your answer "2" unless you want to pay additional guest fees of $20 + tax per night. If you have a small group of rooms 9 or fewer ask her about setting up a group rate.

The Excalibur is one of the least expensive good hotels in Vegas. The outside of it may be a little cheesy but the rooms are good, the casino has low table limits and its location can not be beat. It is connected to the Luxor via an indoor walkway and from Luxor you can go to the Mandalay Bay easily. New York New York, MGM Grand and Tropicana are also very close. The recently upgraded rooms are quite improved from the standard rooms (which are just basic hotel rooms).

My best advice to you is to sign up for email promotions from NY NY, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Luxor and any other hotel that you might fancy on the strip - don't forget the Venetian. I've gotten rates from NY NY from 79/night, Mandalay Bay from 89/night and other phenomenal prices. Just go to the casino/hotel's website and sign up to receive promotions by emails.

For the Cheapest look at the Imperial Palace, Riviera, Sahara and Circus Circus. There is also Bills gambling house (formerly the barbary coast) it is next to the flamingo.

There is a travelodge at the south-end of the strip just north of MGM but you do need to share your bed with live stock!

Not sure which would be the best I have stayed at Imperial Palace and its not bad for the price and location, (center strip).

The other choice is to go to www.priceline.com and bid on a room on the strip.

Have fun and good luck
Glenn

If your looking for the CHEAPEST $$$ probably Circus Circus, then Excalibur and Imperial Palace..Personally I have stayed at Circus Circus and not too thrilled (like a Motel 6) with a clown face...I would spend the exta $10 for Excalibur or Imperial. Look on line they have deals right now like get a buffet or spa treatment.

Stratosphere is way too far!
Def visit it but do not stay there!!!!!!!
Get a map of Las Vegas Blvd on www.maps.google.com. You want to stay anywhere in between The Mirage and Luxor!
Everything else is too far and Circus Circus is just crappy.

I just stayed at Bally's and it was only $104/night, which is pretty cheap for that part of the strip. Bellagio is right across the street and Paris and Planet Hollywood are next door. I had a great stay and felt like I got a lot for my money.

Also, try Hotwire.com for great rates.

Hooters Hotel and Casino has reasonable rates. So does the Barbary Coast (next door to the Flamingo).

Barbary Coast has some neat guest rooms. All of the beds are four-poster beds and it has a Victorian flare to it, if that's your kinda thing.
