Ourselves, for failing to see how the culture in young people is changing; with regards to less respect, core values we were taught as young people to respect each other and respect our country. I could go on and on, but bottom line, I see the blame on the American people. Our on faults.

JennyAnn4, I was just about to ask this question.

I think it is safe to assume that some boomers did not do a good job raising their kids. Because of affluence during the 80s, they gave them cars, credit cards, etc.

While boomers were making the money and trying to get that degree that could further enhance their careers, some of the kids missed out. Not all boomer parents but some. Their kids wore designer clothing and $100.00 and over sneakers. Who was there to teach them if both parents worked and were too tired to supervise etc.?

So I would say some boomer parents ruined American values. They also did not send them to a community Church of their choice so the values that were taught could be reinforced.

But it is not too late. Generation X and Y, may just turn things around in spite of everything they have been through and exposed to. I have hope in this generation.

The Spanish!

...or possibly... Americans?

Are you sure values have been ruined? And by any particular person/group of people? I would much rather live this day in age than back in the 1600s for example.

And you can technically blame anyone. Lets start with Goths, and then move on to hip hop artists!

Interesting question. . . what are American values? How do they differ from European values, or Asian values? Everything including values changes, may be cyclical or swing like the pendulum. Nothing is set in stone. The media has a lot to do with values, marketing products that nobody needs, sponsoring tv shows that glorify violence -even kids cartoons. Have you watched any lately? I was shocked. The best we can do is try to pass along whatever values we have to our family, friends, community, and hope for the best.

Apathy is to blame! Apathy creates a lack of emotional involvement, a lack of interest in anything or in anyone other than themself: It is complete & utter indifference to the plight of the world & the people around them.
When people become so self- absorbed that their apathy extends to their own offspring, or the children they are supposed to be teaching, the congregation they are supposed to minister too with prayer & not prey upon, The medical community that fail to remember their oath, the non- profit organizations that fail to obtain their needed man-power due to a shortage of willing volunteers, the government & political red-tape that hinders instead of helps, the voters that fail to cast their votes or aren't properly instructed in the casting of their ballot to insure that every vote will count, the list is endless: all these things contribute to the indifference that multiplies daily & compounds with interest! When people stop caring enough to try to improve things, to make a positive difference for everyone in the world & not just themself it's a sure sign that all Values: American or World Wide are in danger of imminent ruin.

The media, hollywood, people who pander to the immoral element of society and call it entertainment and brain wash young people into thinking this is normal. Media, movies, TV, where the "robin hood" type crook always gets away with being a crook, where lying is considered normal - and all those feel good, touchy feely new age freaky psychologist, counselor, talk show hosts who tell people they arent "responsible" for anything they do.

And I dont know about the USA, but in Canada, the Young Offenders Act is the biggest problem - I say "adult crime, adult time". In Canada kids under 17 who murder kids, commit what ever heinous crime they want to just walk - this one kid has been charged and convicted 47 times with stealing cars, and he has never been punished for it, poor baby, he doesnt have a good family life apparently.

As a youth counselor I heard kids say "I'm going to be 17 in a few weeks I have to stop doing --" you fill in the blanks, mugging people, gang beatings, B&E's, armed robbery, stealing cars, killing people, rape ----

nothing wrong or ruined about america values. We are doing just fine so you need a change of perspective instead of looking for someone to pass blame on to

I should think that you would be old enough to realize that placing blame is a waste of time and effort. Why not ask what you can do to instill the correct values in younger folks. It is so much more rewarding!

Maybe you think our values are ruined, but this country has more charitable organizations than any other country in the world, more organizations that contribute to the welfare of it's citizens. We do to much to help ourselves and not enough to help others.
