OK I was mistaken Howard Zinn was the one how said the above quote not Thomas Jefferson, but I don't think it effects the relevance, back to the meat of the question.

See Edit below:

Original post:
Thomas Jefferson never said that. The quote is about two years old, not 200. It was made by historian Howard Zinn in an interview with TomPaine.com to justify his opposition to the War on Terror.

No one has ever come up with any thing to show Thomas Jefferson said anything of the sort.

This is not a good beginning for your protest, based on a lie.

Edit:
It is a good beginning when the question poster corrects the error in an email and avoids the erroneous quote in the next question they ask.

It's a sign that there is hope, not for him (he's already either a patriot , as I believe he is - or not).

There are, however, patriots on BOTH sides of this subject. We MUST remember that. These are people who want the best for the United States, who put their own personal ideologies second to the welfare of their nation, and who speak up, and act for that welfare.

We may disagree, but you can tell the patriots. They don't call people names. They don't make up things (or if they misquote, they fix it, for their love of truth), they don't spread unfounded rumors, and they don't treat our representatives as "guilty until proved innocent".

They do question, disagree, dissent, and protest.

We need brakes AND gas no matter what direction we go.

Good luck on your protest. I hope you will help make it a protest Americans can be proud of, not ashamed of.

There is a difference between protesting the United States, vs protesting the policies of the government. Our founders made that one of their greatest gifts to us.

Patriots find a free and harmless means of dissent. Protecting our troops or NOT supporting our troops in the field can in NO WAY be described as patriotic.

It is more akin to TREASON

Now if you FULLY fund the troops and provide ALL REASONABLE forms of material support then you can as a patriot argue against the reasons for the war or the continued political and socioeconomic viability of continuing to fight the war.

To be a patriot, you DO NOT discuss pull outs or withdraws until AFTER you have won the political debate about continuing the fight.

Once the nation is behind the idea that surrendering the field to your enemy is less costly than pursuing them you can then as a patriot debate on the best and least painful manner in which you can withdraw.
