Ridiculous. Fish don't have emotions or get "scared." They just swim away from any disturbance, and 20 seconds later, when they forget about it, they swim back. Duh.
But you're right, scientific progress should only be made if it doesn't inconvenience a school of cute little fishies!

No matter where NASA had put the launch pad, there will living creatures so they would be scared not instead. I have heard (do not know for sure) that fish aren't like elephants who never forgot because the do not a very good memory. OK so other creatures that live near the launch pad may have a better memory. I was watching a program a while and it said that a lot of animals lived near the launch pad, so they disagree with you, has do I. Sorry it been there to long and would be too expensive to move and as animals live near don’t seem to mind, leave it where it is.

NASA already thought of that. Their reasoning is that if the fish are scared, they can just swim away. If they launch in the desert, the turtles can't really get away fast enough.

The location of launch sites is determined in large part by their latitude. Sites closer to the equator make launches easier, because the spin of the earth can be used as a sort of 'assist' to reduce the amount of work that needs to be done to achieve escape velocity.
Furthermore, I don't think that the fish are going to be terribly upset by the sound of a launch - it's not nearly so intense even a short distance from the launch site.

This question can be rephrased into this:
Why did NASA choose the launch site in Florida, by the ocean,
but not in the desert, such as in Nevada or California?
The reason is that the rescue operation for an abort mission
will be easier.
Did you hear the term 'Coriolis force'?
This force make it easier to fall into ocean, the north-east side.

I disagree.
Just because it is a desert doesn't mean there aren't living creatures that could be scared just as much as the fish in the ocean. Lizards, snakes, scorpions (although I'm not all that sympathetic to scorpions), birds and bugs, all live in the desert and would be just as scared of lift-off.

It might scare the sorpions.
What, you don't like scorpions but you like the fish? Is is because of their large watery eyes?
A good question for zoology: can fish be scared and, if so, can they be scared in a way that affects their psychology?
Will they eventually get over it, or should we provide them with ichtyophysiotherapeutic care at a time when we let humans die because they can't pay for health care.
Plus, it is possible that you are simply moving the problem,
"the ocean is a desert with its life underground"
(in the desert you can't remember your name,
'cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain)

Nope. If you launch in the desert, and it fails a few minutes into launch, then a 1000 miles to the east, a city might be in peril... better it should bother the fishies.

I think the reason they launch by the ocean is for (a) safety reasons just in case something goes wrong and for the (b) rocket pieces to parachute and fall into the ocean to be disposed of or retrieved, instead of falling onto the desert floor.

this is really funny actually =P. the problem is that then not so many people would watch it, because its hot enough without tons and tons of shuttle fuel putting all that heat in the air, and also, they would have to build a whole new space launch center. that would be a little expensive.
