So I'm looking for poems to have recited at my wedding. I'm a HUGE Edgar Allen Poe fan- (before you go Oh my God that is so morbid to have Poe read at your wedding- read it first)

Thou wouldst be loved?— then let thy heart
From its present pathway part not!
Being everything which now thou art,
Be nothing which thou art not.
So with the world thy gentle ways,
Thy grace, thy more than beauty,
Shall be an endless theme of praise,
And love- a simple duty.

So, I'm most defintely going to use this one, does anyone have any suggestions for others? Doesn't have to be Poe.

I used William Shakespeare's Sonnet 116 at my wedding. It goes --

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Use this one if you like. It's an original I wrote several years ago that has never been used. Be my guest, if you like it.
Of course I ain't Poe, just a Poe fan.

Wedding Day
This day, my dear, I give to you,
My heart, my soul, my life.
For this fine day I do consent,
To be your loving wife.
I'll fill your needs, and be a help,
In all life's tasks and chores.
I'll be right here, next to your side,
I'll help you open doors.
My love for you will grow each day,
I'll bear for you a son.
You are the love that lights my heart,
You are my only one.
So darling, on this special day,
When wedded we will be.
We'll say our vows, and then as one,
Forever more we'll be.
To have, to hold, from this day forth,
I'll always be your bride.
You'll walk along life's winding road,
With me right by your side.

I always liked Poe's Lenore....and a lot of Emily Dickenson's poems would probably suit, too.

It's a good poem. You should recite that one.
