trigun<--a perfect shot gunslinger named vash has a bounty on his head for 60,000,000double dollars but hes a real funny guy thats always in the wrong place at the wrong time he never kills anyone and hates to see people die mets up with a guy named wolfwood He hangs out with vash and helps him help people but really has a nother plan in mind
nightwalker <--detective is a vampire he has the power to make his blood into a wepon to kill whatever monster he comes against
kenshin<--a wondering swordsman trys to help all the people he can trying to make amends for all the people he killed is old name was the "manslayer"
kenichi<--about a boy trying to fit in always reading "how to" books but cant meets a girl that lives in a dojo with 5 differnt masters he ends up moving in for a while to learn and gets more then he wanted
d gray man<--about a boy that tried to bring his father back from the dead when he met the "Earl" but theres a catch they take your body and instead of takin his sons body he fought it and cursed his son then had hes son kill him now the boy is an exersist hunting down the "Earl"
gintama<---very funny ex samurai turns in to jack of trades trying to make money mets up some other poor poeple trying to make money and a giant dog
air gear<---its about collecting elblems form other gangs its kinda like a turf war show just with air gears which are like roller blades but you can go up walls and fly kinda
GTO<-- an ex gang member wants to be a teacher so he dooes everything he can but the students in the school have something else in mind{like trying to make him quit

Elfen Lied (lots of violence and gore but story is excellent as well as characters)
Madlax (if you like psychological/suspense/girls with guns anime)
Hellsing
the entire Saiyuki series (Saiyuki, Saiyuki Reload, Saiyuki Reload Gunlock)
Ghost in the Shell SAC 1&2
Samurai 7 (great characters and story)

Try Inuyasha. It's one of the best and funniest anime I've ever seen. I've never seen Fruits Basket, But I've seen a lot of addicts that abosolutely ADORE the show.
