I find that the best way to start is pick a corner and just start cleaning! First go through all the clothes and find the ones you want to give away, ones that needs dry cleaning and ones that need washing. The rest hang up or put in drawers.
After that get a large garbage bag and fill it up with all the stuff that is well .. garbage!
Lastly organize stuff you need for school like pencils, pens, paper, spiral notebooks, etc. After you organize just that much there shouldn't be much left.
Oh get all the video games and DVDs and CD into storage containers, or drawers so you can find them easily.
Viola! your done :)
Betcha it only takes 3 hours.. tops!!

Follow Tapestry6 instructions, then every time you leave your room, spend 5 minutes putting stuff where it belongs. Take 15 minutes before you go to bed to get things in order. If you do a little bit every time you come and go, you won't have that big mess. . . Lucky your bed is on the floor, you don't have to clean under it. Just saved yourself half and hour!

FlyLady is an excellent site with all sorts of housecleaning tips.

Learn to think of your stuff in terms of categories. Then designate a different place for each category. Creating a "home" for every item will make it easier for you to put things away.
One thing that has helped me to learn how to categorize items is watching t.v. shows such as "Mission: Organization," "Clean Sweep," "Clean House," and "Neat."
Once you are able to better categorize objects, it becomes easier to create a good place to keep them. And then you will know where to look for items, because they are grouped.
Another thing that has really helped me to become more organized is getting a labelmaker (like Dymo LetraTag, or a similar company's product).

Having things labeled helps me remember what is supposed to go where. Otherwise I tend to forget the organizational system I created in the first place. This has made a huge difference for me.

Take everything out of the room. Sort into 3 piles, Trash Sell/Donate, and Keep. Have a garage sale to get rid of sell/donate and whatever is left, donate! While everything is out of room clean all surfaces and as you put items back clean them before putting away. Sort items in the keep pile into sections like, toiletries, desk, etc... then put in bins. Go to dollar store or Target and get a bunch of bins to fit your shelves and drawers. Replace items in bins. A good rule is if it is not decorative or used daily,it should be in a bin. I like the wooden ones you can get at Lowes. They have a variety of sizes and you can fit them in the drawers or on the shelves as you wish.
For a calendar try: https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=cl&passive=true&nui=1&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fcalendar%2Frender&followup=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fcalendar%2Frender
Others are listed below.
For your clothing: try to get all the same hangers. Take all your clothes and hang the same direction (Like the fronts of the shirts all hang in the same direction) Sort your clothes like this from Left to Right:
Pants From Dark Colors to Light colors
Skirts From Dark Colors to Light colors
From long to short lengths
Shirts From Dark Colors to Light colors
From Long Sleeve to Short Sleeve
Dresses
From Dark Colors to Light colors
From Long to Short Lengths
This way you can find things even when you are asleep and it is easy to match colors. I just grab a pair of pants then hold them up until I see the color I want with them.
Put a hook on your wall in your room and you can hang your outfit out the night before and put underclothehes on the dresser ready to go!
Good Luck!
