No, I really mean this. According to the Ottawa Sun Andy McDonald had the Cup this weekend. http://ottawasun.com/Showbiz/OtherShowbiz/2007/08/12/4411636-sun.html
However, when you follow the Stanley Cup Journal, Sami Pahlsson had it. http://www.hhof.com/html/exSCJ07_22.shtml
Then there were videos on YouTube showing Teemu Selanne with it as early as 8/3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNUN5qNKPjA
I mean it can't be in all those places at the same time. On the Stanley Cup watch sight it says Teemu would have had the Cup on Saturday/Sunday this past weekend. How were there videos of him with it on 8/3 then? I'm confused.

I know each player who wins the Cup gets the cup for 24 hours to do what he wishes (except for casinos and strip joints, lol). But the question is: how can it be in Ornskoldvik, Sweden, Helsinki, Finland and Colgate University at the same time?

The correct answer is 1, and that is the one that is in the vault in the hockey hall of fame. The 'real' Stanley Cup consists of the just the cup itself with a 2" base.
Also inside the vault, they have the original 'small' rings flattened out on the wall (except the one for the 1928-29 Boston Bruins). At one time the Stanley Cup was only 12" in diameter. In the 1948 they changed to the present size.
There are two 'replicas'. One that travels with the players, and one that is kept at the HHOF.
I have included several links that showcase the history of this magnificent trophy!

Ha Ha good point...the cup does get around...
There are technically 3 Stanley Cups.
The first cup is the original. Way back when...1888...Lord Fredrick Stanley of Preston, was appointed General Governor of Canada. He was an big fan of ice hockey and was asked to attend a dinner for the Ontario Hockey Association Champions, the Ottawa Rebels. Lord Stanley was unable to attend and in his absence awarded the team a silver cup engraved "Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup." This is the original cup...now kept in the NHL Hall of fame.
The Second cup is the one we see now. On the top is a replica of Lord Stanley's cup. This is the "show / presentation cup." This is used for all of the publicity appearances and this is the cup that each winning team member gets to have their way with for 24 hours.
There is a third cup. It is the exact same as the second cup. It is pretty much a decoy. This cup was stolen in the 1970's and when NHL released a statement saying that this cup was a fake, it was anonymously returned.

There are three official cups known as the Stanley Cup. The first (given by Lord Stanley of Preston in 1893) remains in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Then there is the second cup (made in 1963) that was then and is still used in presentation of the Cup. It was made in secret and the existence of this cup wasn't revealed until it was stolen by a fan who was "bringing it back to Montreal." The third cup (made in 1993 by Montreal silversmith Louise St. Jacques) is used as a stand in when the Presentation Cup is not at the HHOF in Toronto.
elZacho: Lord Stanley of Preston did become the Governor General in 1888 but the dinner you were talking about didn't happen until 1892 and the Cup was not presented until the following year by the trustees, John Sweetland and Philip D. Ross.

There are three. The original one that Lord Stanley bought is in a vault in the HHOF complete with the works when it comes to security (the only thing that's missing is a big dude standing in front of it named "Bubba"), the Display Cup is also in the HHOF for people to touch and take pictures with, and the Travel Cup which is with the members of the Ducks now.
Judging from the timeline on the articles, they just have one Cup with them. McDonald has it now, Pahlsson had it before in Sweden (which was almost two weeks ago), and Selanne had it a day or two before him. The logistics match because Sweden and Finland are basically right next to each other. They only get to keep the Cup for a couple of days and the Cup Keeper (probably Phil Pritchard is in Ottawa now, but there are two others) is within close proximity of it at all times.

The real, original Stanley Cup is big enough to hold two bowls worth of soup. The cup is from a time and a place where silver of such quality was rarified; the wilds of nineteenth century Western Canada. The cup was originally very hotly contested for by Canadian military units

Actually if you count the original silver bowl that was donated by Lord Stanley in 1893 there are four. That one and the three "modern" ones. One of which is permanently on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame, one which is currently on tour with the Ducks players, and one that is probably on display at the Ducks arena right now.
If I remember correctly, the fourth was added to be left on display in the winners building for the summer and to act as a replacement for the one the players take on tour after the Cup was damaged by a Dallas Stars player during the summer of 1999.

There is the original permanently held back in the Hall of Fame. Then there is the current one that travels. That is it. It is not in different places at the same time. The reason all these guys have it so soon after one another is that they get it for only one day, and then it is immediately shipped to the next guy. Stanley does a LOT of travelling.
