I know this is kind of a retro topic, but I was watching some Hollywood movie the other night and a character in the film was bashing America for being needlessly obsessed with Clinton's "B.J."

Really, where does the blame really lie for this scandal?

Clinton did it, and the same media that carried him for years beat this dead horse until the end of his second term in office. How can one blame the average American for that?

Stupid Hollywood.

Um... When was the public blamed for what Clinton did? Are we talking about the same Clinton here?

Media deserves the blame, and the media panders to the people. Just look at how frequently this is brought up these days.

Yes, what Clinton did was wrong. If youre in a monogamous relationship you should stay that way. However, it should never have received the media attention it got. That was a personal issue between president, first lady, and chubby intern.

Previously this was overlooked by the media, it is not the people's business that he cheats on his wife unless it affects the job. The people are not a victim of this transgression, only his wife is-therefore the people have no need to know.
Find one politician who hasnt done something immoral or illegal, just one. Unless theyre taking money from the people, selling gov't secrets, going to work drunk, or any other abuse or misuse of their power then it should not be an issue.

There is relevant news about corruption, then there is gossip. Even if it makes it into trial and all, it is still just gossip.

What they don't realize is that the Monica thing was nothing compared with some of the real scandals that came out of that administration.

Do you remember Billybob turning over top secret guided missile technology to the Chinese in return for a whole load of illegal campaign contributions and donations to that idiotic Clinton library (Why does a guy who never read a book need a library?) so that the Chinese can now take out our military and communications satellites any time they want to? That concerns me a whole lot more than the sexual habits of an Arkansas Hillbilly.

Actually, I never blamed the public. Most people I know thought that the whole thing was a hype fed by the Congressional Republicans and fronted by the bought media.

The public might have been revulsed by the tawdriness, but most people knew overkill when they saw it.

How much did the prosecution of that case cost. And what ever happened with Whitewater... oh yeah, the judge (a republican) dismissed the case.

_______

the result however is people like ret_roch_kop, below... who wonders why Clinton needs a library, get this, because Clinton never read a book.

Clinton proved himself over and over again to be intelligent and articulate... and very well read. But the whole stupid case made him seem like a sex crazed loser. Yes, he brought his own troubles on... but no, Clinton, as far as literacy goes, is to Bush, as Steven Colbert is to Bill O'reilly.

"How can one blame the average American for that" it may be "stupid Hollywood" but you are the one bringing it up again...you know the only ones upset with Clinton getting a BJ were the men...the woman did not seem to care..so be it but I guess you being a Texan maybe you have some sort of penis envy and if not hey if you are so upset with not getting one come on up here and I will see what I can do for you...Oh by the way, it was not the BJ but the fact that he lied about it...and we all know that lying is a way in Texas as well as Washington because you seem to have produced a long list of lying presidents yourselves.

Just shows how incompetent the media is. you cant blame the people for the media saturating them selves in sometihng that most people didnt care about. me personally i got a laugh out of it until i saw monica then i just wondered what the hell was the president thinking he could have gotten so much hotter of a girl and she wouldnt have fat cow friends like linda trip. Although i have a pretty good idea what happened to her career anyone notice that after she did that to the president no one ever really heard form her again.

Sure, you mean how there was no war that the whole counrty hated unemployment numbers were at record lows and the economy was booming, and therefor the right had to find something to bring Clinton down, yes I do blame the public, and the media.

lets face it many if not all of our presidents have shady past that was hidden before the media was in everyones life beyond the point that is nessicary.

Actually, Clinton is a criminal because of his indiscriminate bombing of Baghdad, his invasion of Kosovo and Somalia, for upholding the criminal embargoes against Cuba and Iraq and lastly for lying to a grand Jury. He also sold out America's workers and sentenced Mexican farmers to death when he signed NAFTA.

Oh, didn't he also invade Haiti?

By the way, they are all criminals. The War Party and the other War Party do not care about you. Vote for a third party or vote for the corporations.

i dont even think its a scandal. he got a *******.. big ******* deal. i dont care about the non criminal personal life of the people running this country. i thought clinton did a good job while in the white house.
but i can see how anyone would say its the publics fault. We are the ones that stuck it on every news channel in america... it was on 24 hours a day. if we would have ignored it, it wouldnt have even been an issue.

The blame lies with Clinton for not being smart enough to say "Mind your own Business" when it came to his sex life.

Equally appalling are the republicans such as Livingston and Gingrich who condemned Clinton for the same things they were doing.
