Whoever told you it "appeared 5 sec only" was misinforming you. A meteor shower lasts typically 2 or 3 days, with its peak (the greatest number of meteors per hour) on one particular night).

You usually have to watch for at least a minute or two before you'll see one. Sometimes they'll come in "bursts" of several per minute; other times you may go 10 or 15 minutes without seeing any. But you have to make a commitment to stay outside and watch for at least an hour or so, if you want to enjoy the experience.

But to answer your question--last night was cloudy in my area. It cleared up long enough for me to see only one :-(, and then I went to bed!

I live in Simi Valley, CA. Last night was a clear night with many stars.
I counted 10 of them.
The first one happened around 9:30 PM, and I counted the last one at around 12:10 AM. I eventually went inside and missed the peak hour.
They looked like balls of light with a tail behind them.

It was a wonderful experience.
I'm doing it again next year.
