I've been to mental health therapy at 2 periods of my life and still think I need more. Is it a scam? Are there people really helped by it or is it just a racket to get you to pay someone to talk to for the rest of your life?

Therapy is not a scam. So many factors depend on therapy working. One of which is the frame of mind you go into therapy with. If you go into therapy thinking it's a scam, you will guaranteed not get anything out of it. You need to believe that therapy can help, and give it a willing try. Another is the therapist, the connection you have with them, how you feel about them. If you have a therapist you don't feel comfortable with, there is no problem with finding another one. It happens all the time, don't worry if that therapist will be offended because they won't be, they understand. Also, the type of treatment you get makes a big difference. What therapy works for me might not work for you. The worst thing you can do is go with it when it's not helping. However, you have to give each therapy a fair shot before you decide it doesn't work. Don't give up on therapy, just be smart about it. Good luck!

I've been to 4 therapists over 15 years for anxiety and phobias. I am better but still think I need more therapy. It sometimes does feel better just to talk to someone who is paid to listen instead of boring your family or friends with your "issues".

No, it's not a scam. But, if you don't feel a click with your therapist, say good bye and find another.

Just as there are different forms of physical health healing, so there are different forms of mental/emotional health healing. Therapy is not a scam, nor is it the only possible solution. It is just one method that works for some, IF they are willing to work it, and take responsibility for helping their own healing process. Just as you can't hand the Dr. your body and say, heal me, you can't expect to hand the therapist your mental/emotional health and say heal me. You have to be willing to work on it too. A good therapist will simply help guide you in finding your own answers IF they have the tools YOU, as an individual need. Only you can answer what tools you need for your own healing. I also believe that physical health and nutritional support are essential to mental/emotional health. For instance, did you know that exercise helps eliminate depression? Or that B vitamins help with stress relief? It all starts with your taking responsiblity for your own health.

I'll tell you one thing it is not a scam. You develop a self awareness about yourself. You get an understanding and you become more in the pursuit in happiness. It makes you less depress. I thing a psychologist once said "alot more people will like each other if we had a little therapy"

It depends, on the therapist and how willing you really are to face things and change. People often come to therapy looking for ways to change others and that isn't the way it works. There are a lot of crappy therapists out there. Don't judge them all by one or even several bad experiences.

It i good for some but sometimes the best therapy is go in a room close the door meditate on the things you would talk about and try to answer your own questions in that trance it has helped me but my mind is pretty resilient

Say you have a this problem. And it took a life time to grow. Do you really expect it to be fixed in a day or two? There may be a place that you can go to with the same benefits that's free.
