Shoveling manure in a horse barn.

In the scheme of things, one of the best jobs I ever had. The only poop I dealt with was right out in the open. No one cared HOW I shoveled it, just as long as I got it up and out of the stall. Plus, I got to play with all the horses, kitties and dogs. (*laughter*) And no one wanted to micro-manage me, or even TAKE my job.

Oh, and offshoring my job to India or China or somewhere else, was never a possibility.

My first job was working as the carry-out supervisor at a Chinese food restaurant. My family has been going there since before I was born, and when I was little, the owner used to say to me, "When you turn 14, you can have a job here." Offer stood up, and I worked there for two years. Had to quit because of school, but I loved it!

Unofficial - Sweeping out my uncle's manufacturing shop when I was 13. A push broom and a ton of metal shavings, and grease.
Official - I was a waiter/busboy/cashier/mop-boy at a mom & pop greasy spoon when I was 15. The only thing I didn't do there that summer was cook. Pinky wouldn't let me near the ovens.
