what does "playing the mud" mean?

i assume it means messing around but im not quite sure so help!

it means trying new things out even if you'll have to get rough in dirty(not literally though! lol) in between..play the mud!!

it's almost the same as "roll with the punches"
which means having the power within to withstand through trouble and misery

Never heard of that--

Where I grew up in the South--"Taking the dirt road" meant anal sex.
