Contrary to popular belief, they do not crow in the morning to wake everyone up. Actually they crow all day long.
They do it for a couple of reasons: to make sure everyone knows it is their territory, to assert dominance, and to announce a victory over a foe (if the rooster has been in a fight). Sometimes they just do it for the heck of it.

Well, if you are religious, it is because God made them that way. If you are not religious, it is because that ensures their survival.
I don't know about you, but the first choice makes more sense to me.
All I know for certain is that it has something to do with their inner workings; it starts to become light (the false dawn) and they want to announce it so all the hens and chicks will know it is time to begin the day. (Chickens cannot see at night; that is how the fox, owl, whatever, grabs them so easily; or, Snuffy Smith!)

If you had to wake up next to something that looked like a chicken, you'd cockadoodle too.
