Ovulation happens about 2 weeks before the start of your next period. Women can only ovulate 1 time in any given cycle, but they can release multiple eggs during their 1 ovulation each cycle.
When the egg is released from the follicle, the follicle turns into a corpus luteum and it starts producing high amounts of progesterone. The progesterone thickens the lining of the uterus in case the egg is fertilized. If the egg is fertilized it travels back down the fallopian tube and into the uterus and implants in the thickened lining--this happens about 6-12 days past ovulation. The corpus luteum gets the signal that implantation has taken place and continues to produce progesterone to sustain the pregnancy.
If the egg is not fertilized or does not implant then about 2 weeks after ovulation the corpus luteum dies and the level of progesterone drops suddenly. This sudden drop in progesterone signals the uterus to shed its lining.--your period.

well everyone's different, depending on your cycle length, but on average it's around the middle of your cycle or 14 days before the 1st day of your period. you should use an ovulation kit to determine your ovulation date so you don't miss it. sperm can live for several days so having sex the week after your period b4 ovulation is a good idea.

After your period stops, before the next one begins, but you do not need a period in order to ovulate, please go to www.mycycle.com it can tell you when you will ovulate just by entering the first day of your last cycle, day 1 of a bleed will be considered the frst day of your cycle. If you want to start testing with opk,s then you should start 3 days after your period stops to know when you will ovulate.

Prior to your period... and technically after your period too.
The first day of your period is considered the first day of your cycle. Approx 14-16 days after the first day of your cycle you ovulate (this varies greatly from women to women though)... then approx 14 days after you ovulate you have your period and the whole thing starts again.
