Word has it Vick is going to suspended for 1 year.
Now I understand the severity of the case, and the fact that he has been indicted, but i think goddell is gone a lil' coo-coo with all this strict action
football is not about image the fact is everyone in football is not a saint and cannot expected to be peyton manning or warrick dunn
if football did not allow ray lewis to play in his trouble year, the ravens would have never went to the superbowl and history would be different.
What do Ya'll think?

i guess i'll throw in here why is it that goddell is able to set the guidelines for suspension... and what does he think it will change... the point is many players don't get to the NFL through so called moral values that are defined by a commissioner, should it be a guy who hasn't played pro football and went through the years of hard work, or a guy who has taken an alternate path and gotten a great education and worked his way up through years of paperwork and networking.... I would feel much more comfortable with a possible suspension had it been gene upshaw and the players assoc. doing it.

i like what goddell is doing. hes turning it from a bad boy sport into a more wholesome game. millions of people, especially kids look up to these players, and what kind of role model is gettin locked up for DUIs, paying prositutes, dog fighting, etc.
i like what he is doing, his strict policy is showing that football isnt for guys who cant follow the rules. hes setting a standard for professional athletes to follow when coming under fire from the law
i support goddell 100 %

I don't think one year is long enough. Hopefully, he will be in jail for 6 years, and that will take care of the issue concerning whether or not we EVER see Michael Vick on a NFL football field again.
Ray Lewis was under a different NFL commissioner's regime when he was allowed to play. I doubt Goodell would have seen it that way.
And yes, NFL football is somewhat about image, that's why many of the players are paid the big $ for endorsements. Also, I don't feel that whether or not a NFL team has a winning season or not warrants allowing monsters like Michael Vick continue to participate.

I think Goodell is doing great and will save the sport from the type of people who should be in prison, not on a playing field. I realize that not everyone can be as good a citizen as Peyton(New Orleans boy) or Dunn(another Louisiana boy... he is a really a good guy, I knew his mother), but thugs and gangstas should be banned from the league.
I stopped watching basketball after the KObe crap and the final straw was Artest and others beating up fans. I have not watched a single pro game since then.
I stopped watching baseball because a drug head now holds a sacred record because he cheated and used steroids. He will go into the HOF, yet Pete Rose remains out. Oh well, you can probably chak that up to being PC.
Good job Goodell....keep it up til all the thugs and ganstas are gone.

I don't think he is crazy. He is trying to improve the image of the NFL brand. It is unfair to compare the actions that Tagliabu took against Ray Lewis, to those that Goodell has taken against Adam Jones, and the ones pending against Vick.
I read that article too and he is also accused of illegal gambling. There has been a rule on the books, at least, since before the 1963 season.
The punishment for illegal gambling can be up to a lifetime ban. I say up to because in 1963, two players were suspended for a full year for betting on football.
The problem is that he doesn't want his brand being associated with crime. Granted most people don't really care, but this is his orginization. He feels that his own reputation is on the line.

If you're referring to the report here on Yahoo, the NFL has denied it, saying that no decision has been made. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league's independent review into the Vick case is not yet complete and that no action, if any, will be taken until the review has reached a conclusion.

...Football is very much about image....The NFL is very concerned about the image of the league and their players........They don't want it to get out of hand. Yes, I understand some of the players aren't saints but when you are in the spotlight you have to be more careful. I think Goodell is doing a good job.......He has to step in and take care of the problem ones now and not let it get out of hand.....Pacman was suspended for tainting the image of the game.....So anybody that taints the image of the game is going to face consequences. Its all about accountability..

It is going the two approaches. particular you do want some gamers being fined for concentrated hits that are no longer needed like after the whistle blows. Or with the suffering with that happen very final week between the bengals and jags. yet like whilst Justin Tuck had a typical although tough hit on the cowboys QB, and that they fined him 9,500$. Thank God they took the great away yet nevertheless, Roger is going over the restriction usually.

I agree even though what vick is accused of doing is horrible, he has yet to be convicted. I don't see how a person gets suspended on a 1st offense without a conviction thats a bit hard.

Nope, I think Goodell is a 'stand up' kinda guy. I appreciate his effort to clean up the NFL that has recently appeared to be populated with more than its share of gangsta thug mentality.

Godell wasn't commissioner then. The fact is he understands that image is part of the business. He's making it very clear that no one is going to mess with the image of the league. You do something to reflect poorly on the league....you're outta here.
