First of all, it can help to talk about your problems. (which you probably already know) But when you share problems with someone that you know in person, you can't really "take it back" or pretend like it never happened. If you share on here, you can choose to read peoples' comments, maybe even get into a discussion with someone who can help you out. But if at any time you regret what you said or don't like someone's response, you can just close the window and eventually move on with your life. For that reason, people feel safer behind the privacy of their computer screen.
Just remember... Some day you might connect to a friend on here and they could look through and see all of the secrets that you have shared. I have admitted to a few things on here that I would have taken back if I knew that a co-worker was going to find me on here. Luckily none of it was too bad because I knew that the potential was there from day 1.
It would be cool if Yahoo! gave the option to keep some of your stuff 'personal' so that people couldn't track back to it. Then again, reading what someone has said in the past can give you an idea of if they are generally a good advice giver.

Why do you think people go on Jerry Springer, Dr. Phil, to tell the whole world about their problems? Some are trying to get the attention of others. Some are simply bored with nothing to do. Others want another person's opinion. Then, some really feel like they can seek out for help and not be identified because their screen name isn't known to the others answering the questions. People may not feel they have anyone close that they can really talk to about their problems, so they use the next best thing that is accessible to them. (Yahoo Answers)

yes, definetely! People feel safer in the comfort of their own homes asking questions personal and otherwise that they wouldn't ask normally. Also it's nice to get various ideas and views from others. It's also quite evident that some use it as a great way to bully people that are just asking simple questions.

The fact that you are asking this question is a clear example of how easily it is for people to hide behind the computer and share their problems with complete strangers, without having to actually see them, hear them or watch them talk.

The privacy of the internet can be great. Theres some things you can't tell someone close to you but when you can spill your guts out to a complete stranger it doesn't matter what you say to them.

People feel more secure in telling their business to a stranger. A stranger will actually probably respond impartially to your issues as opposed say a friend or a relative. Also there are no chances of gossip.

Because sometimes you don't want the advice of your family and friends, it's much less embarrassing to get advice from complete strangers cause they haven't got a clue who you are. I personally have gotten some very helpful answers here.

I think if they tell let it out they dont hold it in, plus its strangers so people wont be gossiping about them around town, its like online dating you'll paste a picture and a profile but dont have the balls to ask someone in person or want to drag out when ou guys meet, or how they pick someone across country.

Yes, the privacy afforded by anonymity!
I also have trustworthy close friends but feel uncomfortable talking about some things with mere acquaintances.

its good to get peoples opinion on things that dont know you or the people involved in a problem, lots of opinions are generally better than a few, and some people dont like talking about stuff so if it helps why not ...
