You know in the Supermarket for bulk Items they put a sticker on them to let staff know they are "Paid For". It is kind of like that so scouts and other teams do not try to make a contract offer to your Quarterback. Ever notice if a back up comes in and the original starter is not wearing the Green Dot. It means he goes "back on the shelves" he needs to a new price scan and marked down to seem more appealing to other teams. Of course they always go in the "Live Bait" Section.

Teams are allowed to have 1 helmet with an earpiece in it. For obvious reasons, the QB is always chosen to wear the earpiece. The green dot indicates this.
