I received a ticket for my registration being expired. Then I received a ticket for my registration not being signed. Since it is expired shouldn't that cancel out that other thing since it wasn't being used?

I live in NC.

I just don't see how I can be ticketed for something that is no longer in legal.

I just don't see it that way. I mean I guess it doesn't matter if I do because its the law but I am getting a ticket for something that is not even being used if it is expired.

Yea, they can tack on as many applicable extra charges as they want.

But you can always argue in court that it wasn't applicable because it was expired and plead guilty to an expired tag and fix it, and they'll probably drop the extra charge.

Unfortunately the answer is NO. They can cite you for as many violations as they can find if they really wanted to. The fact that the registration is expired does not negate the fact that is was not signed.

I am curious as to what state you are in, because I have never had to sign my registration before - that is usually done when you first get plates and then they just renew me each year when I send a check.

They are two separate infractions and thus you got two separate tickets. That's like saying that you shouldn't get a ticket for your license plate lights being out because your license plate is expired. Not a chance.

Nope. You broke 2 distinct laws and can be ticketed for both.

Two different violations, two different citations.
