What you're talking about is called fanfiction, and when you're thirteen, it's not necessarily a bad place to start. I think what you're describing is just fine. You're only 13, and you probably won't become a famous author anytime soon. You need time to practice your craft and hone your skills, and the type of writing exercises you're describing are great practice. So don't worry! In fact, many people who start stories as fanfiction find their ideas and characters taking on lives of their own until they wind up with something quite different from what they started with. It's a good place to get ideas.
You can also try browsing the internet. There are a lot of sites with "writing exercises" designed to spark your imagination and beat writer's block. There are a few on my blog if you'd like to check it out: http://carynswark.blogspot.com
Hope that helps!

Story ideas come from experience. The more experiences you have the more you will have to write about. So sit back and enjoy life. I think you're on the right track with what you are writing now. Just keep it up, and write even when you don't feel like it.

what a wonderful place to begin
think of yourself as a rose
right now you are tight in bud, caccooned from the world
see the opening as a journey, a discovery, an adventure
enjoy the process of learning, you will witness it unfold before your very eyes
It may take you a lifetime to become the full and glorious rose full of fragrance and beauty, dancing in the wind, being caressed by raindrops, but in each moment you will discover magic that will illuminate your imagination.
Trust that it will BE there when you need it
Enjoy

Get to the library and find books on writing. They will offer you good guidance, teach you what to do if you suffer from writers' block and you will learn how to write for the type of writing you want to do.

use contrast as an idea.
I've been toying off-and-on with an idea of mine called EAST FLORIDA, but I have yet to commit anything to paper.
