Is the proposed border fence really for potential terrorists? Or, simply an agenda to make the U.S. a gated community?

It's to keep out illegals, and potential terrorist. Terrorist coming in from Canada is a bigger threat, more border to defend, and no fence at all.

I would rather see a 50 foot wall built between the US and Mexico than sit back and allow this government to continue threatening the individual freedoms of the American people. Noone ever said that the border fence would end terrorism. Most thinking people understand that the fence would make it more difficult for a terrorist to simply walk across the damned border.

No knowledgeable individual thinks terrorists come into the U.S. ONLY through the border with Mexico.
Some of those who hijacked the planes on 9/11/01 came in from Canada or flew directly here from the middle east and entered as students.
Then there are the ports and coastline.
MOST illegals flood in from Mexico, and most smuggling of drugs and other contraband (WEAPONS?) come in that way also, SO THAT BORDER GETS MOST OF THE ATTENTION, but it is a CRIME for our government to ignore national security and ALL points of entrance.
National security is the responsibility of the President and the Executive branch of the government.
It is the responsibility of the Congress to finance the needed requirements.
They are ALL remiss in not addressing this SERIOUS SECURITY THREAT and it will be THEIR responsibility if we get hit AGAIN.
FIRE ALL of them and elect responsible pro- Americans to run this otherwise great nation.
OUR failures (as citizens) are due to electing self promoting individuals who are NOT public SERVANTS.
Support responsible candidates in the PRIMARIES so you can vote for credible leaders in the main elections.

Terrorist fly directly into the United States on commercial airliners and do not need to sneak across any border .

They come with money and lots of it .

They are welcomed by our government with properly filled out paper work and minimal background checks .

Mexicans love this country and to my knowledge have not attacked any buildings or military personnel .

Save some money on building a fence and just offer a $100,000.00 reward for the capture of any terrorists trying to get into the United states .

This will keep any of them from crossing the mexican border .

How ever Canada is the place most terrorists cross if they do not fly directly here .

As far as people sneaking into the country, terrorists we surely have to fear, but not illegals as much (if they intend to work only). We don't want terrorists in the US, period. If it takes a fence or more guards I don't care, secure that border!

it could be naive human beings to think of that each and every terrorist is being trailed by ability of the FBI or place of foundation secure practices forces. it particularly is a digital known actuality that terrorists are crossing over our northern and southern borders comfortably. There are cells interior the US waiting to pounce. situation is that those cells are smaller and much extra difficult to stick to. Even Cheney has pronounced this approximately an attack: "that's not a question of if, yet whilst." For as quickly as, I consider him.

At this point - a gated community would be nice.
In case you weren't aware millions of people are walking across the Mexican border into America undeterred by such niceties as visas and passports.
We have no way of knowing who or what those people are or what their intent might be.
Obviously, the only way to make some people adhere to immigration policy is to make it impossible for them to go around it.

It is to keep illegal Mexicans out of the USA. I always smile when I hear someone speak of the fence as being an anti-terrorist measure...really, a sad viewpoint fraught with problems in its application!

I think we should close all borders. I would love for this to be a secure country. Go gated community!!!!

You refer to "a gated community" as though illegals have a right to be here "but for" the fence...that's not the case...crossing the border is i-l-l-e-g-a-l, as in "not legal"--it is a way to enforce the law, not an exclusionary tactic for immigration. If you want to immigrate, try doing it legally.
