He is on an open blind so we can't smush or catch him with a cup. He has been resting between the slats on the open blind for 20 minutes now.

hornet/wasp spray - stuff shoots a long way

Just swat it with a flyswatter...

If you're THAT scared of coming close to it - then stand back and hit it with an insecticide (some of those cans will project a good 15-feet). If you don't want to do that or don't have that handy... a simple aerosol can with hairspray (or other flamable material) and a lighter will do the trick too (yes, I'm telling you to flamethrower the bugger!)

Have you tried opening the window. Hornets are docile wasps and only sting as a last resort.

For one hornet, cover it with something thick & large (place setting or oven mit) & squash it against window, wall, something flat. Spraying one or two wasps in a room would just make it mad - before it dies. Then throw the squashed thing outside or flush down toilet (in case you didn't kill it).

Put some soapy water in a squirt bottle and spray him with it. I didn't believe that it would work but it does. I had a nest of paperwasp's by my front door and sprayed them with soapy water and it killed the entire group in less than 5 minutes.

Don't laugh, but spray it with hairspray and run. It will make him mad, but by the time he has a chance to get to you, he won't be able to fly because his wings will be sticky. Then, you can just mash him, scoop, and flush.

You are going to have to swat it. Put on long sleeves and gloves. Cover your head, face and neck if possible. Don't close your eyes when you hit it or you will miss it.
