The United States against Libya. They accomplished this under Reagan when he attacked Momar Gaddafi's palace. That seemed to put an end to it. Have we heard from Momar in awhile?

Currently the British are looking like finally succeeding the Provo problem. There has been not terrorist attack for a few years now and most of the murders have stopped as well. We'll see how the orange men march goes before really accepting that the IRA have stopped.

Also the had success over:

An Gof
Free Wales Army
Scottish National Liberation Army
Cornish National Liberation Army

Actually, Ireland has done a good job, but it was more of a reconcilation than a successful campaign. In this country, the terrorists (abolitionists) in the late 19th century were actually successful in their goal of ending slavery, and thus ended their attacks on government buildings and theft of property (slaves). Usually though, terrorists only ever die out, or succeed. They are never really defeated.

Momar Gaddafi was leader of a NATION, not a terrorist organization - big difference

Russia has had success against terrorists from chechnya but only by destroying chechnya

It depends on what YOU consider winning. What goals do YOU have in mind? I have read some of the responses you got and there is much to be desired in my mind.

Israel is a great example of a country that is winning the war on terror. They are in the midst of the war on terror. In fact they have been fighting it long before most of us here were born. I would say they have achieved a large amount of success. Repelling Syria and Egypt twice, the recurring terror bombings and the ever present international pressure aimed at subduing their efforts. I just watched a show about the Israeli pre-emptive bombing mission to knock out Saddam's Nuclear Reactor in 1981. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osiraq ) The international community was outraged by this and condemned the act in public but in private were overjoyed. Ten years later the nations of the world invaded Iraq to liberate Kuwait. Just imagine what operation Desert Storm would have been like if Israel had not decided to pre-emotively strike. They are winning on multiple fronts; at home and on the battlefield. The fact is they are the best example no one else comes close.

The U.S. is another example. When Reagan bombed Muammar al-Gaddafi not so much as a peep came from them until recently in 2003.

***”Following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein by US forces in 2003, Gaddafi announced that his nation had an active weapons of mass destruction program, but was willing to allow international inspectors into his country to observe and dismantle them.”

*** Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaddafi

Also, obviously there is much disagreement but I believe that the U.S. is still winning the total war on terror with its current engagements. Not because we were not attacked again but because we are fighting.

Fast forward to today and now we face a threat from Iran having possession of Nukes, an unstable Iraq due to sectarian violence, a North Korea possessing Nukes, and still terror networks that are still operational. I can only hope that the international community decides to act before the problem escalates in Iran. In my mind proactive action on all fronts, at home and abroad, is the only real way to win the war on terror.

Israel has had some successes, but they generally don't last. Sierra Leone effectively wiped out an insurgency by hiring mercenaries (who were far outnumbered by at least 100 to 1) to come in and clear them out.

Saudi Arabia is one.
I would say any but the ultra-conservative Islamic states.

they accomplished it in much the same way we accomplish our anti-gang violence goals here in America. By educating the masses without demoralizing and insulting them.

none that i'm aware of. i don't think the US strategy is going to work either. i can't see how a war on terror can be won while supporting terrorists.

added. some people may want to research MEK.
