It's because there were two Bush's, George HW Bush, also known as Bush Sr., who was in office from 1988 to 1992. Then there's George W. Bush, who's our current president. If the stickers simply said "Bush" the vast majority of Bush supporters would probably get confused about which one you meant. So they use "W" to clarify that they are not, in fact, showing support for the elder Bush. Probably because he had definite military objectives and an exit strategy before he headed into Iraq.
