to overcome this, i started visual meditation, in ten minutes random images start flashing through your mind, a bit like dreaming while your awake, just close your eyes, clear your mind then think about the subject and the pictures start flowing, it's pretty much unlocking everthing from the creative side of your brain and shutting up the rest of it!

Well, do the same thing that Writers do. Just start drawing or painting or whatever kind of art you. Just do scribble scrabble for a while. It doesn't even have to look like anything or be that good. Just by getting your senses flowing again will help you come up with new ideas. Just sit down with some paper in front of you and just start doodling to get your creativity juices flowing. Hopefully this works. It's always worked with me when I've gotten writer's block. Good luck!

Do something totally unrelated, and it will get your mind flowing again. I think there is such a thing as overconsumption of material relating to what you do. For a while, I bought every art book I could. I have backed way off from that. Don't really know if I am better or worse because of it, but I feel less choked by "too much information" now, anyway.

It's just like overcoming writers' block-- put down whatever you are doing, and start sketching random things out. Go outside and draw whatever strikes you the most. Just draw and don't worry about what it looks like. Ideas will come to you very soon.
The key is to keep drawing!

yes staring at a blank sheet of paper or canvas is annoying.
hope you carry a tiny note book, for the ideas that pop into your head when you are out and about, so much better that a pocket full of bus tickets and scraps of paper with little scribbles on them.
try going on the flickr image website.
explore the most recent picture - that should be random enough to inspire you.
some good stuff from other artists on there

I go to museums and look at works by artists that I find to be incredible masters. Sometimes its a walk in a scenic area that makes me want to do a landscape. Other times its taking note of how light and shadow fall around a simple object.
What moves you? What gets you excited? What gives you energy?

Try totally immersing your brain in a different activity for at least 30 minutes. Do some algebra problems, write a letter or clean the house. This may reset your creative process.
It would be the same for writers, artists, programmers.

Yeah, I get that.
That draw somebody elses drawing, watch a movie, or flip through a magazine. That always helps me, and if I like a feeling, a piece, or something I saw I'll start drawing that and go on from there.
Or, go through your sketchbook and start taking some pieces from there and going with that.
Good luck!
