I need tips besides thinking of something sad in my life. I'm trying to be an actress and this is one talent I am trying to master. I haven't had that many extremely sad moments. I'm a happy person and of course that's not helping. I tried not blinking and yawning (at the same time) but i still cant get enough tears to actually fall down my face even after blinking several times. I used to cry involuntarily when thinking of fictional sad moments with sad music in my head. Now it doesn't work. Nothing makes me cry! Not even onions! Do i lack tears or something?! Help! Any sad movies i can watch that i can think of later and still cry or anything else like that? Any fictional sad moments I should think of? Sad music to go with it? Anything to make me cry?! Any tricks besides sad moments? Eyedrops? Help!

What about convincing yourself something tragic has happened. Could you imagine how you would feel if, you found out your mom had died in some terrible accident?? What about a song or a movie that brought tears to your eyes??

Why do you want to prove that you can do something when you can't? That sounds really daft. Some actors can do this, some can't. But it's really not a vital skill at all - if you're acting to camera, the make-up lady can dive on and add fake tears. No problem. If you're on stage, the audience is always too far away to notice anyway. The real skill is in the acting of the distress - shoulders heaving, sobbing, a crack in the voice, shaking - all you have to do is act it really well - real tears just aren't necessary.

I would add to theatre doc's answer that not all good acting requires crying and that, conversely, all crying is not necessarily good acting. Sometimes the attempt NOT to cry (or the illusion thereof) is more powerful than actually having tears streaming down your face.

Acting is not a set of mechanics that you learn to do. When you are in a scene that requires you to cry, you will cry if you are truly acting. Perhaps you do not know what acting means. Click on my name and read my profile and write me at may aol address and we will talk about it.

It's really easy...offstage or offcamera rub your eyes for a while.Then,wait...and DON'T blink as long as you can.Once the tears come then think sad and it'll just keep flowing.

Think of a child being raped...if that doesn't make you cry, nothing will.
